Why You Should Use Lotion

There are numerous benefits to using tanning lotions while indoor tanning. According to American Academy of Dermatology the use of tanning lotion is a must while an indoor tanning session.

The science behind indoor tanning can be boring and complicated, but there is one fact that shouldn’t be overlooked.  Tanning lotions are beneficial in tanning beds because they act as a protection shield to the rays that can cause skin damage. The skin dries up, sunburn occurs, and sometimes red rashes appear as side effects. The lotions sold at the tanning salon have been prepared with different formulas to prevent these drawbacks of tanning.

The benefits of using tanning lotions are:

The lotions for indoor tanning contain dehydroxyacetone (DHA) formula that enhances the tanning procedure. The accelerating of tanning is beneficial in the sense that it reduces the time of exposure under the lamps and moderate tanning threats no risk. Also, it provides the dark tan that you desire for.

The tanning lotions also contain hydrating particles that keep the moisture balance of the skin intact and no wrinkles or dryness prevails.

They also provide nutrients, supplements essential for the skin and restore the condition of the skin. This makes the skin softer and healthier.

The amino acid tyrosine present in the lotions stimulate the melanin production giving a uniform and better tan.

They protect you from premature aging. Tanning without tanning lotion will give you wrinkles faster than those that use lotions.

The latest lotions contain advanced formulated ingredients for the extra care of your skin. They have no side effects for the smooth surface of your skin, so the benefits that tanning lotion provide makes them worth using during indoor tanning sessions.

Ever wonder why your shoulder blades or backside doesn’t seem to tan?

It’s because you need oxygen circulation to tan…  The patch of white on your lower back or shoulders is from the pressure points when you tan lying down, you can stand tan to get rid of those, or simply shift or lift yourself occasionally in the bed while tanning.   If you allow some air to circulate between the glass and your body you will find that you can get amazing color from your session.

To enhance your color you should try SMOKE, an Oxygen based product that uses airflow to provide the deepest, longest-lasting color imaginable.

Smoke O2 Tan Maximizers are revolutionary tanning formulas created to ignite your tan with Oxygen Conversion Technology™ and dark tan maximizers for a new level of darkness. Use to develop and dramatically darken a tan.

Smoke is a Black Bronzer, but don’t be scared because the lotion is white.  This means you can be more carless with your application and not have to worry about streaks.

Smoke uses DHA self-acting bronzers further darken skin after UV exposure for longer-lasting color.  The fragrance is pineapple, passion fruit and mango.

You can get Smoke in a bottle or packet at Bronze Bodies.

Mystic Tips

Mystic Tan first introduced its tanning booth in Dallas during the spring of 1998. Since then, Mystic tanning has become synonymous with fast application and a sun-kissed warm glow. Spray tanning allows safe tanning without any of the dangerous UV sun rays. Before you spray tan, use the following tips for a longer-lasting tan.

Before You Tan, Exfoliate
Before you undergo that Mystic tanning experience, you need to exfoliate. You should do this daily anyways to get rid any your dead skin layers, but it is vital before you get a spray tan. With fewer dead skin layers, your skin can absorb the tanning solution deeper for a longer-lasting tan. You can use a loofah or exfoliating scrub for this. The tanning solution will work better and apply more evenly without the extra layer of dead skin. Be sure to give your elbows and knees extra attention so they don't look darker.

Pre-tan Steps
Do not use any moisturizer on the body or apply makeup beforehand because this will create a barrier that may restrict the Mystic tanning spray from going on evenly. You should put on some lip balm on your lips to protect them from the spray. Bring loose clothes to wear after the tanning session; the tanning product requires about one hour to set, and tight clothing may rub off the tanning product before it sets. Bring some unscented moisturizer to apply to the hands and feet after the tan.

The Tanning Process
You have a choice of three color levels in the Mystic tanning process, and for a few bucks more you can add an extra boost to richen your color. When you are standing in the booth, hold arms out straight from the sides with the palms facing downward and away for the spray nozzle. Your chin should tilt upward toward the ceiling.

The process takes about one minute. If there isn't anyone at the booth, there will be recorded instructions to follow. You may want to face with your back to the nozzles so they don't startle you when they begin spraying. Turn slowly, following the instructions of the recording. Afterwards, don't shower for a few hours, to give the product time to soak in.  Also moisturize after the tan to help you skin stay sikly smooth as your color develops.

Eye Protection is NOT Optional

Before you step into any tanning bed or stand up booth, there’s one thing you need to put on. And no today, I’m not talking about tanning lotions. Instead, I’m talking about something that’s even more important – tanning eye wear or goggles.
We only get one pair of eyes and exposure to ultraviolet rays can be very harmful. The good news is that with the right eye wear, you can protect your eyes.
Tanning involves different types of ultraviolet lights and if you don’t wear the proper indoor tanning eye wear, you can get very painful corneal burns. UVA light rays can enter the retina and cause serious burns and permanent internal eye damage. In the worse case scenario, it can lead to blindness.
Here’s some tips to make sure you properly protect your eyes when you’re tanning:
Make sure your tanning eye wear fights tightly over your eyes. Make sure that there’s no light leaking in. If there is light leaking in, it’s time to get different kind of eye wear.
Don’t want to wear goggles because you’re afraid of getting “raccoon eyes?” You can use self-tanning eye lotions. If you remove your tanning eye wear to get your eyelids tanned, you could damage your eyes and your vision permanently.
You should never share your tanning eye wear with someone else. When you do that, you risk getting an eye infection from the other person.
At Bronze Bodies in Berlin, NJ you can find several different kinds of tanning eye wear so you can find the right kind for you.

The Advantages of Indoor Tanning

There's a reason for this; sunlight provides the Vitamin D that the body needs to fight off feelings of depression. When the body gets low on Vitamin D, it can't fight those feelings as effectively. And of course, that's not all that the body needs Vitamin D for. Vitamin D regulates calcium which assists with kidney function and bone growth (that's why you drink your milk, right?) It is also helps improve the efficiency of the immune system and provides many other benefits to the body including possible cancer prevention. And without that Vitamin D, those benefits are lacking.

So, what are people to do when the sun isn't shining? After all, you aren't going to move away from your home or job just because it happens to be in a place that rains all of the time. And you probably don't have the option of maintaining a winter home in a sunnier hemisphere just to get your Vitamin D. So, clearly, you have to find an alternative source of Vitamin D for those times when the sun doesn't shine enough for your health. Tanning beds may be able to help provide that Vitamin D. But are they a safe source?

Absolutely. In fact, tanning beds may be a safer source of Vitamin D than spending time in the sun itself. The reason for this is that the best way for a body to get Vitamin D is through moderate exposure to UV light. When you spend time out in the sun, it's usually not for a moderate amount of time. Even if it is, you can't really tell how much exposure you're getting to UV rays because there are so many weather and location factors to take into consideration. When you tan indoors, you control the exposure to UV rays to make sure that you are getting only moderate levels, minimizing the risks of UV exposure and maximizing the benefits.

Furthermore, tanning beds are located inside of tanning salons which give you direct access to professionals who can give you advice on the best methods of tanning for Vitamin D absorption. These professionals are the first to learn about newly approved tanning lotions and new types of tanning treatment that can better maximize your tanning experience. Rather than trying to research the right way to tan outdoors, you can book a tanning bed at a salon where the information about safe tanning will be right at your fingertips.

Finally, the benefits of the tanning salon environment can help to decrease the effects of Vitamin D deficiency, at least in the area of depression. People who take the time out to enjoy the salon experience and who get the relaxation of time spent in a tanning bed are more capable of warding off the feelings of depression that can happen from low Vitamin D than are those people who simply try to wait until the sun returns.

Just remember all things IN CLUDING TANNING in moderation.

Getting the Most from Your Tan

Getting the Most from Your Tan

The 3 must have basics before you tan.
  • Eyewear –FDA approved
  •  Lip Balm –SPF 15+
  • Indoor Tanning Lotion
Eyewear is essential every time your eyes are exposed to uv light indoors or outdoors.  Your eyelids are too thin to protect your eyes from sunlight and should always be protected. FDA approved eyewear is required to enter the tanning room.
It is important to apply an SPF 15 lip balm before every tanning session, indoors or outdoors.  Our lips have no melanin and therefore cannot tan.  If you skip this step your lips will feel dry and chapped.
The use of quality indoor tanning lotion will likely lead to healthier skin a darker tan and even an improved complexion. Healthy moisturized skin tans better. Tanning everyday does not necessarily increase your tan taking breaks helps save money and build and maintain your tan.
Today companies are pushing how much “bronzing” power they have. This is simply something that gives you more immediate color and works together with the UV light to give you a darker, more golden tan. Tingle lotions contain ingredients that cause stimulation to the skin that will increases surface circulation leading to a faster tan. This helps the skin tan better since more circulation means the pigment cells are carried to the skin’s surface faster. Tingle products can be very effective but may cause reddening and discomfort in some people so its best to try a mild one and stick to one area the first time you try it.
While choosing the right lotion may seem overwhelming the important thing is that you at least use something. Our tanning concierge will help you select the product that is right for your skin and your budget. Using at least a basic indoor lotion will help you get much better results and keep your skin healthy.
Before your visit:
  • Exfoliating in the shower before your first session is always a good idea.
  • Remove all jewelry and makeup before tanning
  • Apply your favorite indoor lotion
  • Always be sure to apply lip balm and wear FDA approved eyewear
While Tanning:
  • Make sure the top of the bed is closed fully to develop an even tan
  • If using a standup be sure the door is fully closed behind you
  • If you feel that you are getting too much color end your session
Once your session has completed
  • Get dressed and be sure to collect all belongings
  • If you used a lotion containing bronzer remember to wash your hands before leaving the salon
  • Throw away any trash and return your towel to the hampers supplied in the hallway
  • If you have any questions feel free to ask your tanning concierge.
  • Moist skin stays tan longer so always use a good moisturizer after showering and before bed.

Are you a male who is looking for a quick and easy way to emphasize and accentuate your body? If so, try tanning. If you think the idea of men tanning sounds metro-sexual, you’re wrong. Some of Hollywood’s hottest men are currently sporting the bronze-skin trend.
Here are some tanning facts about men:
  • Over 25% of tanning clients are male and of all ages.
  • Body builders, both amateur and professional, using tanning beds regularly to define their look.
  • Men going on vacation or spending time on the beach want to look like they go there often and avoid burning.
